Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 11:5-6 (NKJV)
“Now there was Saul, coming behind the herd from the field; and Saul said, ‘What troubles the people, that they weep?’ And they told him the words of the men of Jabesh. Then the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard this news, and his anger was greatly aroused.”
Reflections: When Saul saw the people weeping, his first response was empathy—he genuinely wanted to know their burden. Moved by compassion, he shared in their pain, and this compassion opened him to the empowerment of the Spirit of God. His willingness to help activated an anointing that led to victory. Saul’s story reminds us that God often moves in our lives when we are moved by the needs of others. This passage teaches that God’s empowerment is often tied to our willingness to serve others. When we are moved to compassion and sincerely want to help, we align ourselves with God’s heart, which opens the door for His Spirit to work through us. Until we show a willingness to help others, we limit the ways God can empower us for success. Compassion is the catalyst that brings God’s anointing, enabling us to become vessels of His power and presence in times of need.
Prayer: Lord, let my heart be moved by the needs of others.
Confession: I am a vessel of God’s compassion.
