Thursday, 2nd December 2021: Refusing to give up in life will pay off!

Scripture Reading: James 5:10
Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and patience. Behold, we count them happy which endure.

Reflections: The Apostle James recommends a key lifestyle of the prophets of old to his generation and generations to come. He notes that these prophets did not have it all easy. They suffered affliction but yet exercised great patience in enduring it all until they fulfilled their mission on earth. The word ‘endure’ in Hebrew means to ‘stay under’. It denotes someone who does not give up amid sufferings or afflictions. Such a person still stays under his/her convictions and does not waver in faith until it is all over. According to James, this person is considered blessed. Thus there is a blessing in refusing to give up in life. You may not have it all easy at certain times in life. In such moments, however, like the prophets of old, hold on to your faith no matter what. Don’t quit the race of life either. Keep enduring until it’s all over. You will surely reap the blessing that comes with fortitude!

Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you that I can endure afflictions. I have fortitude.

Confession: I have the grace to endure hard times. I don’t give up in life. I reap the benefits of exhibiting fortitude in life.
