Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 24:12
The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
Reflections: David had an opportunity to take revenge on King Saul, who unjustly sought his life. Instead of retaliating, he chose to honor God by leaving justice in His hands. He understood that vengeance belongs to God, as affirmed in Deuteronomy 32:35 and Romans 12:19. This account is a reminder that situations may arise where we feel justified in taking matters into our own hands, especially when wronged or betrayed. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to respond differently. Vengeance often leads to more strife and a hardened heart, whereas trusting God with justice allows us to remain in alignment with His will. David’s decision also speaks to humility and faith. He trusted God’s sovereignty and timing, knowing that God’s plans are perfect. When we choose forgiveness and trust God to handle our battles, we walk in obedience and display the character of Christ.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to trust You fully and refrain from taking vengeance into my own hands.
Confession: I choose forgiveness and allow God’s justice to prevail in every situation.
