Scripture Reading: Psalm 118:5
I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me and set me in a large place.
Reflections: The psalmist notes that one time he found himself in distress and therefore cried out to God for help. The word translated distress in Hebrew is ‘metsar’. It denotes being squeezed in or held up tightly. Such a condition is sure to produce pain and anguish in one’s life. The Psalmist further notes that as a result of his prayer, God broke through on his behalf and set him up in a large place. The word ‘large place’, translated in Hebrew, is ‘merchâb’. It speaks of enlarging a space to find the freedom to escape. Like the Psalmist, through prayer, God will create an open space for your escape from troubles!
Prayer: Oh God, create that open space for my breakthroughs to occur.
Confession: God has brought me into open space! I am out of that tight corner!
