Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 22:30
And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
Reflections: The spiritual practice of “standing in the gap,” as intimated by God to Eziekiel, should not be overlooked by God’s children. Understanding city wall protection reveals the spiritual value of standing in the gap. City walls keep attackers out. However cracks (gaps) in the wall can allow the opponent to attack. Someone therefore guards the gap with a weapon while it is fixed. After sealing the opening, the city is again secured by an impenetrable wall. In the spirit, people’s lives resemble a walled-in city. They are secure as long as the wall doesn’t malfunction. However, as soon as a crack appears in their personal defenses as a result of difficulties or opposition, danger is on the horizon. Someone needs to act swiftly to recognize this and fill the resulting spiritual gap through prayers so that a work of defense and restoration may start. By implication, your faith and calling require you to pray for others (1 Timothy 2:1).
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me not to loose the passion of standing in the gap for others.
Confession: I pray for others.
