Scripture Reading: Nah 1:14 And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

Reflections: The Assyrian empire flourished and conquered many nations including Israel. Apart from being powerful they were cruel and brutalized the states they conquered. Their power appeared to be endless and so surpassing that no one ever thought they could be overthrown. The prophecy of Nahum however, indicated otherwise. God had issued a command for the empire to be wiped out completely. The command included the digging out of their graves in readiness for their burial. This became a message of comfort to the people of Israel. It confirmed that all power belonged to their God. Like Israel, you have the same message of comfort. No matter how powerful your enemies may seem to be, they will still be no march for God. Indeed their graves, like that of the Assyrians, have already been dug by God! God’s power remains final!!

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am glad that no power is above you. You are God all by yourself.

Confession: No matter how strong they appear to be, the wicked in my life shall not prevail. I am comforted!
