Scripture Reading: Judges 14:15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so
Reflections: Samson fell in love with Timnath, a Philistine woman, and married her against the laws of Israel and his parents’ desires. During the wedding celebration he organized, he posed a riddle challenge to the male Philistine visitors present. The Philistines used Timnath to get their way through by requesting that she entice Samson to reveal the answer. The English term ‘entice’ is derived from the Hebrew word ‘pathah, which means “to be opened up” and connotes extreme vulnerability. This indicates that the Philistines were aware of Samson’s vulnerability due to a weakness he had, and thus decided to exploit it. This weakness is his sexual lust, which ultimately led to his downfall through his relationship with another Philistine woman, Delilah (Judges 16). As with Samson, any weakness you possess is an opening for your adversaries to exploit to their advantage. You’ve got to deal with it!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me overcome every weakness in my life.
Confession: I have conquered my weaknesses.
