Scripture Reading: 1 Sam 25:29 Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall He sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.
Reflection: Abigail found David’s life ‘to be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD. She informs him that due to this, his pursuers will not be able to kill him. Rather they will be taken out of their bundle of life. Their plans to prevent him from fulfilling his destiny as a chosen king will therefore remain fruitless. The bundle of life represents the security and protection of a life lived on earth. Without it you can meet your untimely death. David’s bundle of life was superior to that of his enemies. He was bound in his bundle by God, the creator of all flesh and all spirits. This explains why Saul and his men failed in their attempt to kill him and rather met their own untimely death during the battle (1 Sam 31). You may find yourself in an intense battle with your enemies but be rest assured that as a child of God, you are also ‘bound in the bundle of life with the LORD your God’. Your enemies will therefore be slung out of their bundle and you will be left alone to gracefully carry on with your mission on earth. Give God a shout of praise!
Prayer: Oh Lord, let me be bound in the bundle of life with you and sling out my avowed enemies from their bundle.
Confession: I am bound in the bundle of life with God. Those who will try to take me out shall be slung out of their own bundle, by my God, like a stone is taken out of a sling. I shall not die but live to tell what the Lord has done.
