Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way

Reflections: The role of the wisemen in the birth of Jesus Christ is crucial. First, they noticed and recognized the star heralding his birth, and in response to its beckoning, they travelled from their own country in the East all the way to Bethlehem carrying gifts for the child. They did so without ever asking God for an explanation or complaining. Second, as they prepared to depart Bethlehem after visiting Jesus, God advised them in a dream not to go to King Herod’s palace as they had planned. This was likewise followed without raising questions or asking God to clarify his directions. Their position and response speaks of utter submission. It indicates the need to act without reluctance or delay anytime you discern the divine will. God guides: we obey!

Prayer: Dear Lord, like the wisemen, help me to do your will without reservations and delays.

Confession: I do not delay when I discern the divine will.
