Scripture Reading: Acts 1:21-22
Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
Reflections: It has been a while since Judas committed suicide. The need arose for his position as one of the 12 apostles to be replaced. Rather than pick anybody from the population of disciples who had gathered in the upper room, Peter, the lead Apostle, had something up his sleeve. He developed criteria to guide the selection and final appointment to the position. Anyone who became a disciple and followed Jesus from the time of John up to his ascension would make the lineup of those who qualified to be selected. The action of Peter demonstrates the criticality of criteria setting to guide the choices we make in life. Criteria is ‘a principle, rules or standard by which something may be judged or decided’. You don’t make choices anyhow in life. You must be guided by a set of rules. It will help you make the best possible choice.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me develop a set of rules to guide the choices I make.
Confession: I develop a set of rules to guide the choices I make in life.
