Scripture Reading : Joshua 1:20-21
And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak. And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
Reflections: Each tribe was allotted their portion of the land of Canaan. Apart from his tribal apportionment, Caleb was given Hebron as his personal inheritance. As soon as he received this package of blessing, he went to work. He will not allow the sons of Anak to co-exist with him on his inherited land. Neither will he enter into a league with them. He knew of the security threat they could pose in the future. He fought and drove them out. Caleb’s attitude was in sharp contrast to that of the other tribes. They failed to drive out the inhabitants of their land and tend to live with them. Later on, events proved that these inhabitants became a thorn in their flesh and caused a lot of unrest in their lives (Numbers 33:55). Caleb’s inheritance was free of such disturbances. In life you have to be smart and careful. You should not maintain the presence of associates who will later prove to be enemies to your progress and establishment. Like Caleb, you must be discerning enough and expel them from your life outright. This will guarantee the peace and security of your life and blessings in the future. Get to work now, ask the Holy Spirit to help you.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to discern the presence of people in my life right now who will prove to be enemies to my progress in the future and empower me to expel them from my life.
Confession: I will not allow myself to walk with people who will end up becoming enemies to my progress and establishment in life.
