Thursday, 17th October 2024: The Word: Our Standard and Judge!

Scripture Reading: John 12:47-48 NKJV
“And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.”

Reflections: The Word of God is the ultimate standard for our lives, as Charles Wesley captured in his hymn, Captain of Israel’s Host: “…our rule thy word.” Our decisions and attitudes should align with God’s principles, as His Word will be the measure of judgment. Jesus emphasized this in His interaction with the Pharisees—those who reject His words will be judged by the very Word they dismissed. Whether through sermons, songs, or personal meditation, God’s Word holds us accountable. We must take it seriously, as it governs our lives now and will judge us later. Living in obedience allows the Word to shape us fully.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word, which serves as the guide for my life.

Confession: God’s Word is my standard for living.
