Scripture Reading: Matthew 11:9 (KJV)
“But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.”
Reflections: Jesus reveals that John the Baptist was not just a prophet but more—he exceeded the expectations of those who came to see him. While people expected a prophet to offer encouragement or correction, John’s role was to prepare the way for the Messiah. This passage challenges us to exceed the expectations set before us. When we live with purpose, God enables us to surpass both others’ and our own expectations. John’s life was marked by dedication, humility, and obedience. He didn’t settle for the ordinary; he fulfilled God’s unique calling. Similarly, we are called to rise above the ordinary and reflect God’s purpose for our lives. While the world values meeting minimum standards, God calls us to exceed expectations, living with excellence and continually growing in faith and action.
Prayer: Lord, help me to exceed the expectations placed on me, not for my glory, but for Yours.
Confession: I will exceed the expectations placed on me, living with excellence, diligence, and purpose.
