Thursday, 15th July 2021: Look above and not at people!

Scripture Reading:Act 7:54-55
When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God.

Reflections: Stephen spoke the truth about how the people of Israel had rejected the standards of God’s word. This truth, infuriated the people so much that they got angry at him. Instead of looking at them and counter reacting, Stephen, rather looked up into heaven. As he did so, a vision of the glory of God caught his attention. While sharing this vision out loud, the people grew more angry and started to throw stones at him. His gaze upwards could not be disturbed by this. In that posture of looking up, he asked God to forgive them. Clearly, if he had looked at the people, he may have been moved to retaliate. His continuous focus on God therefore, enabled him to rise above those sentiments. Like Stephen, you can also prove to be different by rising above sentiments fueled by the vindictive actions of others towards you as you allow your response to be heavenly driven and love motivated. Look above and not at people!

Prayer: Oh Lord, help me rise above sentiments to fulfill your agenda of love and forgiveness

Confession: I don’t look at people. I look at God!
