Thursday, 14th July 2016: Aim to be a type of the righteous branch

Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 23:5
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

Reflection: Through the prophetic voice of Jeremiah, God speaks. He is so unhappy with the spiritual leadership of Israel. The Pastors had failed him. They cared only for themselves and had caused the people to scatter and to walk in error. This was so unacceptable. God now looks eagerly forward to the emergence of another type of Pastor he calls the ‘righteous branch’ who will not fail in his assignment to shepherd and to pastor the people. The term ‘righteous branch’ means a sprout out of the Righteous one. Certainly such a branch cannot be different in character from the very righteous tree it sprouted from. The term however prophetically referred to Jesus Christ. Indeed Jesus proved in his life on this earth that there was no other good Shepherd than he was. He accomplished the task that God assigned him. From this, we get to understand that God seeks for those who will not fail in their assigned roles. Such people can be considered a type of the righteous branch! They don’t fail to deliver. Don’t ever fail to deliver whatever work is assigned you in the kingdom. You will get God excited and fulfilled. Be a type of the ‘righteous branch’ in life and you will be glad you did!

Prayer: Oh Lord, help me be a type of the righteous branch in life and in the work of the ministry.

Confession: I will live my life as a type of righteous branch. I will get any work assigned me in his kingdom accomplished in a timely manner and without fail. God will delight in me.
