Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 6:12
And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
Reflections: Sanballat and Tobias had been on the heels of Nehemiah ever since he responded to his call to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. In their bid to intimidate him, they employed several tactics, the last being the use of prophecy! Yes, PROPHECY! The prophecy to guide Nehemiah into safety as prophesied by Shemaiah sounded as if it was from the Lord but it was not! Nehemiah was quick to discern its source- Sanballat and Tobias! Apparently this two men had hired Shemaiah to give out this false prophecy. This deception would have lured Nehemiah from the construction site into the temple where he would have been killed. Until you learn to discern the source of prophecies you receive, you will be deceived. Prophecies do not always come from God. Ask God to give you the ability to discern the source of prophecies (1 John 4:1).
prayer: Oh Lord, give me the ability to discern the source of prophecies I receive
Confession: I will not believe any prophecy until I have known its source!
