Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 17:9
Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee.
Reflections: The drought situation in the land worsened affecting agricultural production. Life became unbearable for people. To sort Elijah out, God asked him to move to the town of Zarephath where He had commanded a widow to feed him. When Elijah located the woman, it became apparent that the woman only had food that will last for just a meal and then it will all be over. Miraculously however, as the woman yielded to the insistence of Elijah to prepare the meal, the jar of flour and the bottle of oil never run empty until the drought season was over. There are two lessons in this narrative. First we note that God had been true to His word to Elijah that He had commanded the widow to take care of him. God is faithful to deliver on His promises. Secondly, we discover that God provided the means for the widow to carry out His desires. God will always supply the resources needed for individuals to obey His commands. Whatever occurs, never turn down what God wants you to do!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to yield to your desires.
Confession: I do not turn down what God wants me to do.
