Scripture Reading: 2Ki 20:11
And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz

Reflections: The dial of Ahab is a stair-shaped time keeping device which enabled the people to tell the time of the day. It operates on the same principle as a sundial, using the changing position of the sun’s shadow to indicate the time of day. When Hezekiah was struck down with a life-threatening illness, he prayed for healing. God responded through the Prophet Isaiah, promising that Hezekiah would be healed in three days. Hezekiah asked for a sign to confirm God’s promise, requesting that the shadow on the dial of Ahaz move backwards, reversing its normal progression. God granted this miraculous sign by making the shadow move back ten degrees. This event demonstrated God’s power to reorder the natural order and fulfil his promises. Just as Hezekiah experienced God’s limitless power and faithfulness, we can trust that God will fulfil his promises in our lives.
