Scripture Reading: Romans 13:8
Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Reflections: In encouraging the church to pay every debt they owe the state in taxes, Paul seizes the opportunity to flag a spiritually obligated debt the church should never cease to pay. He labels this as the ‘debt of love’. He emphasised that ceaselessly loving others unconditionally fulfils the law. This implies the need to keep loving all the time, no matter what happens. No wonder Jesus made love a key indicator or a mark of a true and genuine disciple of his ( John 13: 34 -35). Indeed love is the one debt you can never finish paying. It has no limits. It never fails. It never ends. (1 Cor 13:7-10)
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me to love others unconditionally.
Confession; I see unconditional love as a debt I owe others.
