Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:28
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Reflection: All they knew was that the act of sexually sleeping with another person’s spouse constituted sin. But Jesus brought out the total truth about the matter. It is not only just about indulging in the actual act of adultery or fornication. Equally brought into judgment is the thought of lust one entertains in his mind. So you may not have committed the act but once you wished or have discussed in your mind how you would have loved to have sexual contact with the person you are looking at, you are judged as having committed the act. The key truth raised here is the fact that our thoughts our weighed by God and once it is found to contravene scriptures, we are counted liable of offense. We understand that our thoughts are never hidden from God (Isaiah 29:15-16, Psalm 94:11) and that these thoughts are weighed (Proverbs 21:2 and 16:2-3). Paul draws our attention to the way out with our thoughts. He says our thoughts must focus on ‘whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report’- Philippians 4:8. Why don’t you watch your thoughts from today!
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me align my thoughts to that which is your will.
Confession: I will not defile myself with my thoughts. I know God weighs my thoughts. My thoughts shall be focused on what will praise God!
