Scripture Reading: Luke 2:19
But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Reflection: Soon after Jesus had been born, some shepherds came into the manger to visit him. It was a huge surprise to Mary and Joseph. The shepherds shared their story of how they got wind of the birth of the new born baby. Angels had appeared to them and directed them to the manger. The angels had told them that Jesus was going to be the savior of mankind. Mary was so stunned by their story. After they had left, she was noted to have ‘kept all that the shepherds had said and pondered them in her heart’. The word ‘ponder’ comes from the Greek word ‘soomballo’ which means ‘to converse mentally with one’s self’. Thus Mary kept meditating on the information the angels had given to the shepherds. This was going to keep her spirit yielded to the word of God and her faith unwaveringly connected to the purpose of God. Her reaction is a clear demonstration of how we can get the WORD to gain roots into our lives and to benefit from its power. Like Mary, anytime you read God’s word or hear it preached, you must mentally move into conversation with it. The whole of today, why don’t you keep conversing mentally (within yourself) about why Christ was born? Have a merry Christmas!
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me to meditate on your word.
Confession: I converse with the word of God within my self. I live a life of meditating on the WORD. I am moved only by the WORD. I am transformed daily by the WORD.
