Scripture Reading: 2Sam 12:14
Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
Reflection: Some people tend to talk about God in a way that does not show respect and reverence. This is termed blasphemy. One of the reasons why people blaspheme is proven to be the ill character exhibited by those who have affirmed their faith in God. The story of David and Bathsheba is a clear illustration of this. David, King of Israel had an affair with Bathsheba, wife of Uriah which resulted in a pregnancy. To cover up his sins, David ended up having Uriah killed and then goes ahead to marry Bathsheba. As the prophet Nathan stood to pronounce divine judgment on David’s abominable act, he brings to the fore how this deed has given firm grounds for the enemies of God to blaspheme. He tells David that he should know that by his actions, people will now have the platform to blaspheme God. Probably David hardly ever thought about this when his lust for Bathsheba began. The character you exhibit in life matters beyond what you may imagine. Once it is in perversion, you give people the chance to blaspheme the name of God. You are what people will use as a deciding factor to either blaspheme or to praise God!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I seek to get people to praise you through my character. Please help me stand strong.
Confession: I will not allow my character to give an occasion for people to blaspheme the name of God. I will live by the standards of life which will get people rather to praise my God.
