Scripture Reading: Luke 17:4-6
And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
Reflections: Jesus highlighted the issue of offenses and forgiveness and established the right response and approach to ensure that harmonious relationships are maintained amongst people. In the case of those who offend others, Jesus pointed out that once they realize that they have offended someone, they are required to repent of their actions before the offended person. The word repent speaks about a change of mind that is accompanied by confession. The implication is that the one who offends must go before those they have offended and apologize for their wrong actions. By this it clear that we have a duty to apologize to those we offend in life. It allows for emotional healing to take place. This is a kingdom requirement we cannot belittle. Benjamin Franklin got it very right when he said “Never ruin an apology with an excuse’.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me not to trivialize the subject matter of apologizing to those I offend.
Confession: I abide by the divine rule of apologizing to those I offend in life.
