Scripture Reading: Rev 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
Reflections: The church in Pergamos was chided by God for tolerating the presence of those who hold the doctrine of Balaam. By implication, such ‘disciples of Balaam’ should be quickly discerned and rebuked. Balaam as a character is noted to have succeeded with his strategy of getting the Moabite ladies to seduce the men of Israel into sexual sin when he failed in his attempt to curse them. His aim was to see them loose their divine covering and favor. The ‘disciples of Balaam’ are therefore simply those who slyly lead others out of the will of God so that they end up suffering the loss of divine fellowship and protection. Around and close to you can be such people. With the help of the Holy Spirit, you can discern who they are and get them out of your life! You cannot afford to loose your divine fellowship and protection.
Prayer: Dear Lord, open my eyes to see any disciple of Balaam in my life.
Confession: My eyes are open by the Lord to discern any disciple of Balaam in my life.
