Scripture Reading: 1 Sam 18:2 & 5
And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house. And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
Reflections: David, a young shepherd, had just finished delivering food to his brothers who were in the army camp. His visit turned out to be monumental as King Saul appointed him to become a special Security Advisor to Israel’s armed forces. This appointment occurred following David’s effort to ward off the security threat posed by the Philistines to the state of Israel. He single-handedly faced and killed Goliath, the Army commander of the Philistines. Until David came to the scene, no one else could provide this solution. This sudden feat propelled him from a lowly shepherd boy to a relevant figure in his nation. The main message conveyed in this text is that only those who provide solutions become significant in life. They are the ones who achieve tremendous success, as opposed to those who only receive solutions. As believers, our purpose is to manifest as the ‘salt and light’ of the earth and offer solutions to our generation’s challenges. Following David’s example, we should strive to be the ones who take action and make things happen by being solution providers.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me take my place as a solution provider in life!
Confession: I am a solution provider in life.
