Scripture Reading: Genesis 24:5-6
And the servant said unto him, Peradventure, the woman, will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest? And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again
Reflections: His master tasked him to find a wife for his son, Isaac. The location for the search was restricted to the land of his master’s birth. Rather than make an immediate move, Eliezer, servant of Abraham, proceeded to obtain clarifications on the instruction given. He inquired if he should ever get Isaac to visit the land should the woman who will be selected to become his wife refuse to return with him. Abraham responded negatively, asking him to make sure Isaac never visits that land. The line of action of Eliezer proves him to be someone who doesn’t work with assumptions, especially when the opportunity exists for clarifications to be sought. This is one of the ways to avoid making mistakes in life. To succeed with tasks assigned, learn to seek any needed clarification. Don’t ever assume you understand and know it all!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me live with the wisdom of seeking clarification anytime it becomes imperative to do so.
Confession: I seek clarification on issues rather than assume I know it all.
