Scripture Reading:1Kings 17: 20 And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
Reflections: The widow stood before Elijah with her dead son. She insinuated that the death of her child was attributable to Elijah’s presence. This surprised Elijah. He knew he had been sheltered and fed by her all this while. He therefore, decided to pray to God. He took the boy into his bedroom and stretched himself three times over him, asking God to reverse this evil that had befallen his host. His words ‘ Oh God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn’ was a petitioning type of prayer. A petition is an appeal you make to a higher authority for redress of a situation. It is a case well presented with supporting facts for consideration. His petition was upheld by God. The child sneezed and got back to life. You too can petition God in prayer based on the facts of a matter that duly merits attention! (Isaiah 43:26). Like Elijah, you will find God faithful and just!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you that you are faithful and just to respond to my petitions.
Confession: My God is a hearer of petitions! He is faithful and Just.
