And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Reflections: Mary and Joseph both received divine visitations about the unique baby they would have, who would redeem the world from sin. Mary was visited by an angel who announced that she would supernaturally conceive and give birth to Jesus Christ. Similarly, Joseph encountered an angel in a dream who allayed his fears about Mary’s pregnancy and encouraged him to marry her and father the child who would be born. Despite this, they journeyed about 90 miles to Bethlehem while Mary was almost nine months pregnant. They could not find a guest house in Bethlehem and settled for a manger where Jesus was born. Having divine backing may not always guarantee a smooth journey. God will allow challenges to come your way so you can build up your faith in Him.
