Scripture Reading: John 1: 50-51. Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
Reflections: Nathaniel believed that Jesus Christ was the Messiah only after Jesus had demonstrated an unusual ability-the use of the spiritual gift of the word of knowledge. By this gift, Jesus was able to tell him about his initial physical location before they met. After this incident, Jesus further launched into the spiritual gift realm and tells Nathaniel of an upcoming encounter with heaven which he describes as ‘greater things’ that Nathaniel will soon see. If Jesus’ life and ministry was boosted by the operation of spiritual gifts, we cannot do less. No wonder the early disciples could also not do less! Apostle Paul confirms the use and importance of spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:1-10. Desire to manifest any of these spiritual gifts and be ever ready to be used by the Holy Spirit as you share the gospel of Christ (1 Cor 14:1) this new year. Through you, a ‘Nathaniel ‘ will also see greater things to the glory of God! Happy new year!
Prayer: Dear Lord, endow me with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and move me into operation.
Confession: I live in readiness to be used by the Holy Spirit to demonstrate His gifts and power.
