Saturday, 29th July 2023: Correction and discipline are good for children!

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 29:15
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

Reflections: As a parent, you must guide your children towards responsible adulthood. The Psalmist emphasises the importance of using a ‘rod and reproof’ approach. While ‘rod refers to discipline, reproof talks about correction. Discipline helps to correct unacceptable behavior while reproof informs the child of their mistakes and how to correct them. When a child displays inappropriate behaviour, parents must tell them of the wrongdoing and correct them accordingly. If the child is reluctant to learn from corrective actions, disciplinary measures may be necessary. Failing to provide this guidance can lead to children becoming wayward and irresponsible. Correction and discipline are good for children!

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to correct and discipline my children as appropriate.

Confession: Correction and discipline are good for children
