Saturday, 25th June 2016: Avoid becoming a busy body!

Scripture Reading: 1Peter 4:15
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
Reflection: The Apostle Peter sounds a word of caution to the church- ‘don’t be found to be a busy body’! Paul also sounds this same word of caution in
1 Timothy 5:13, and 2 Thessalonians 3:11. This indicates that a busy body is a negative term and no one should ever be proud to become or called as such. Do you often take it upon yourself to interfere in another person’s matter? Then you are a busy body! The word translated busy body from the Greek is ‘periergazomai’. It means to be working round about other people’s matters instead of at one’s own business”. Thus when you are quick to meddle and pry into the affairs of others, you are simply a busy body! Busy body is not just about being nosy. It leads you to become a gossip. Busy bodies end up obtaining information about people and they are unable to keep quiet about it. In the long run they end up damaging lives through the information they spread about them. Becoming a busy body goes against Christian ethics. It constitutes sin. Avoid it at all cost! Ask the Lord to keep you away from the spirit of busy bodies.

Prayer: Oh Lord, help me not to be a busy body!

Confession: I am not called to be a busy body in other people’s matters. I will not be a busy body in life. I will avoid the company of people who are busy bodies!
