Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 2:19-20
But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king? Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.
Reflections: Nehemiah had a mission to fulfill. He had to lead his people to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem. It took him a record time of 52 days to accomplish this task but this did not come easily. He faced four major challenges, the first being a mental assault. Sanballat, Tobiah and Geshom, his enemies made ugly remarks about the work that was being done. They spoke so negatively to discourage him and from working. Nehemiah however, stood firm and defied this level of assault. This allowed the work to continue. David is another classical example of someone who overcame this type of mental assault. His brother’s spoke negatively to him when he wanted to fight Goliath. He however, resisted them by maintaining a positive mindset. He went ahead to fight and defeated Goliath. ( 1 Sam 17:24-37). You must say no to negative words spoken to you!
Prayer: Oh Lord, give me the grace to overcome any mental assault in life.
Confession: No negative words can have a toll on my life. I will not accept and allow what people say to discourage me in life.
