Saturday, 22nd July 2023: Do not put your trust in man!

Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 17:5-6 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

Reflections: Trust is a strong conviction in another person’s capacity to assist you in some way. The practice of placing confidence in others and demonstrating reliance on them for assistance is widespread. Unknown to us, this has dire consequences for our lives and is responsible for some of the challenges we face. Jeremiah compared these challenges to the condition of stunted bushes in a barren and unproductive desert. It denotes a completely hopeless condition. This means that when you rely on limited mortals instead of the infinite God, you are cut off from divine resources and thrust into a challenging circumstance. Do not put your trust in man!
Prayer: Dear Lord help me to put my trust in you alone.
Confession: I do not put my trust in man
