Saturday, 20th November 2021: You cannot afford to be a ‘tasteless salt’.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:13
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men

Reflections: Jesus in his sermon likened the role of disciples in the daily lives of people to that of salt. Salt is noted as an essential mineral for seasoning and preservation of food. The saltiness (savour) of the Salt is what makes it crucial and relevant. Tasteless salt is therefore worthless and disregarded. In the words of Jesus, ‘it is just good for nothing and deserves to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. The relevance of every disciple is thus determined by how much that person can positively influence others and help preserve them for a blissful life in eternity. You cannot afford to be a ‘tasteless salt’. Fight to keep your savour level and yield to your mandate to season and preserve lives!

Prayer: Dear Lord, make me an ever-ready savoured salt to season and to preserve the lives of others.

Confession: I am an ever-ready savoured salt. I season and preserve lives.
