Scripture Reading: 2Tim 4:10
For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
Reflection: Toward the end of his life, Paul sadly wrote to Timothy “For Demas, having loved this present world, has forsaken me and gone to Thessalonica.” Even though he had once been a fellow-worker with Paul (Philemon 24), Demas succumbed to the lure of the world. According to John, the lure for the world consist of ‘the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life’ (1John 2:15 ). These are attitudes ‘ motivated by wrong desires and the wrongful promotion of self. Lust is a craving for what is forbidden. Lusts are ungodly cravings that control you. The “pride of life” is placing confidence in what you possess rather than in God. So the lure of the things of the world pushed out Demas’s love for God. How sad! Watch out. The love for the world will certainly push out your love for God!
Prayer: I refuse to love the things of this world in Jesus name.
Confession: I will not be motivated by wrong desires in this life. I will not abandon my love for God for the love of the things of this world.
