Scripture Reading: Jdg 4:22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.
Reflections: It was time for Israel to overthrow the Canaanite rule. Deborah, Israel’s prophetess and Judge instructed Barak to attack the Canaanite army. Barak entertained fear and said if Deborah did not accompany him to the battlefield he would not go. Even though Deborah consented, she prophesied that Barak’s action was going to cause him to miss a great honor which had been reserved for him. True to her words, even though Barak defeated the Canaanite army, he missed out on something significant. Sisera, captain of the Canaanite army fled when he saw that he had lost the battle. He took refuge in the house of Jael, a woman who lived along the road. Jael was quick enough to drive a peg through his temple while he slept and thereby killed him. When Barak got to the scene, he realized a woman who had never been to war had taken his place of honor. In life, when you always want people to assist/motivate you before you can do something, your reserved place of honor can be passed on to them. Learn to be self motivating and go personally for the highest honor!
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me to be self motivating in life so I can take up every place of honor reserved for me.
Confession: I will go ahead and do what I know I have the ability and capacity to do. No one will take my reserved place of honor in life.
