Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 9:10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
Reflections: Plowing is turning up the earth or piece of land by an implement to get the land ready for seed planting. It is a key activity of a farmer. When the farmer sets up his mind to plow, he does so with the hope that the activity will certainly lead to the planting of seed which will in turn yield a harvest. Jesus reminds us that just as hope motivates the farmer to work so are we to utilize the power of hope in executing our tasks assigned us as citizens of heaven. Hope is an ‘indication of certainty and implies “a strong and confident expectation.” It is the confident expectation that whatever you have tasked yourself to do, will yield the necessary results. This mentality stirs up in you the needed courage and patience to keep you focused on what you set yourself to achieve. Hopelessness will obviously rob you of this mentality and you will end up abandoning your desired goal. Hope is a big deal! Don’t ever defer it (Proverbs 13:12). ‘Plow’ in hope!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to maintain a hopeful attitude in life.
Confession: I am hopeful in life. I work towards any task assigned in life with the hope that I will see the needed results. Hope keeps me moving until I get there.
