Saturday, 11th January 2024: Life is governed by seasons!

Scripture Reading: Matthew 9:14-15
“Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, ‘Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?’ And Jesus said to them, ‘Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.’”

Reflections: Life is governed by seasons, each with its unique purpose and demands. In response to the disciples of John, Jesus explained that fasting, a practice of mourning or seeking God, was not appropriate at that time because His disciples were in the presence of the Bridegroom—Himself. The time for fasting would come later, after He had ascended. This interaction underscores the importance of understanding that there is a time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Acting out of season, even with good intentions, can lead to frustration or misplaced effort. Wisdom comes from discerning the times and aligning our actions accordingly. Just as fasting has its appropriate season, so do the various activities and decisions in our lives. Trust in God’s perfect timing and embrace each phase with faith and obedience.

Prayer: Lord, Help me to discern the times and align my actions with Your will.

Confession: I walk in step with God’s timing, discerning the seasons of my life with wisdom and trust.
