Scripture Reading: Act 8:39
And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
Reflections: The disappearance of Philip who had led him to Christ should have saddened him. But the Ethiopian Eunuch appeared not to be bothered. He kept rejoicing as he rode back to Ethiopia in his chariot. The source of his joy merits investigations. Luke 10: 17-20 provides the clue. It cites ‘the book of life’ which contains names of those who are born again. Jesus pointed out that the source of joy in the life of a disciple should be the fact that their names have been recorded in this book. Paul also enlightened the Philippians about it (Philippians 4:4). When thoughts of having your name written in the book of life becomes the source of joy in life, nothing can stop you from rejoicing in life. This is what is most likely to have happened to the Ethiopian Eunuch. Like him, you may encounter the loss of a ‘ Phillip’ but you will still rejoice. Do you see your name in the book of life? Then let nothing stop your from rejoicing.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you that my name is written in the book of life. This remains the source of my joy.
Confession: I rejoice daily in life. My name is written in the book of life. This is more than enough for me. I will rejoice and again rejoice!
