Monday,3rd December 2018:Amen is not just a mere word!

Scripture Reading: Deut 27:14&16
And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice, Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Reflections: As part of their marching orders to possess Canaan, Israel was told to do something significant. The Levites were asked to stand on Mount Gerizm to pronounce blessings and on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses. As each proclamation was made (whether blessing or curse related), the people were required to say Amen! They said it loudly and with such conviction and meaning. This indicates that saying Amen was part of the reason why the proclamation made was going to yield results. The word ‘Amen’ is derived from the Hebrew word ‘aman’ and among others it means ‘sure’, ‘certainly’ and ‘so be it’. It is a declaration of affirmation and therefore not just a mere word to be recited, ignored, treated or said lightly. Your Amen is the affirmation of your agreement to the results expected from the prayers said or the proclamations made. Don’t ever treat it lightly! Shout Amen!

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me remember all the time that saying Amen is the affirmation of my agreement to the results I expect from prayers and declaration!

Confession: I will not miss it! My Amen shall always be said with conviction!
