Scripture Reading: Dan 5:17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
Reflections: Belshazzar was terrified when he noticed a hand writing in a foreign language on the banquet hall wall. He began to shiver and wobble as a result of the terrifying scene. He attempted to have his magicians translate the writing, but they failed. Then he found Daniel’s spiritual gift and asked for his help. Belshazzar offered to award Daniel with purple clothes, a gold necklace, and the third-highest rank in the kingdom if he succeeded. To his surprise, Daniel declined the reward and interpreted the writing, much to the delight of everyone. Daniel gave an example of how spiritual gifts should never be used for selfish ends. Like Daniel, as you use your spiritual gift to assist others, don’t let money or gifts drive you.
Prayer: Please, Lord, enable me to use my gift without regard to financial gain.
Confession: Serving with my spiritual gift is not driven by gifts or money.
