Scripture Reading: Col 3:5. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry
Reflection: It is exciting to note that believing in Christ and getting baptized changes the course of our destiny. Not only are we freed from eternal damnation and associated charges but we are also raised up to be seated in heaven with Christ. All these settles what we could never have done on our own. With these in view, the Apostle Paul points us to some work which requires our effort now to be effected. This has go to do with subduing the sinful desire of our flesh which will be an ongoing exercise until we depart from the earth. To work this out, you must be mindful to ever resist the periodic rising of sudden strong and unreflective urge or desire to do something which God never commanded you to commit such as fornication, uncleanness (impurity), inordinate affection (lust), covetousness (greediness) etc.. Your success at doing this marks you out as a genuine child of God who has tamed his/her flesh. Get to work!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me subdue the desires of my flesh.
Confession: I am not fake. I have subdued the flesh. I please God with my life!
