Scripture Reading:Jer 2:3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the first-fruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

Reflections: Israel is declared as “holiness unto the Lord’ as well as ‘first fruits of His increase’. Another word for holiness is consecrated (separated solely for a specific use). Whatever is consecrated belongs only to the one it has been dedicated to. First fruits on the other hand refers to the first harvested produce of the ground. This was strictly reserved for God and taken to His temple. Both ‘holiness’ and ‘first fruits’ implies something reserved to serve only the interest of God. As holiness and first fruits unto the Lord, Israel occupied a position where anyone who mistreated them became guilty before the Lord and consequently got punished. They enjoyed this provision of security and peace as long as they remained consecrated and served the interest of God unreservedly. As a covenant child of God, you are also holiness unto Him as well as His first fruits. As long as you remain connected as such, you enjoy divine security and peace.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to remain connected as your first fruits and holiness unto you.
