Scripture Reading: Numbers 21:16-18
And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water. Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it: The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves.
Reflections: Water is so essential for life. The many roles it plays includes flushing waste from the body, regulating body temperature, transportation of nutrients and aiding digestion. Without water, one cannot survive. As they journeyed through the wilderness, the people of Israel run out of water. They looked around but there was none in sight. Their survival was heavily threatened. At this point, Moses discerned God’s voice assuring him that water was going to be made available. In obedience, he led the people in the direction that God began to provide. As they followed, the leaders of Israel engaged the use of their wooden staves to clear the bushes before them. The action looked as if they were digging a well. Surprisingly they discovered one filled with fresh water. How come they never saw this well earlier on? They knew God had supernaturally dug it out for them. With such joy, they drew out the water and drank. They couldn’t help but to spontaneously compose and sing a new song out of this breakthrough to honor God. Your survival in life may have come under threat, but like the people of Israel, God will dig out your well of ’survival’ too. Just keep following where He leads!
Prayer: Oh Lord, dig out my well of ’survival’ and lead me to it!
Confession: God provides my needs.
