Scripture Romans 4:18 (KJV)
“Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.”
Reflections: Faith is often described as the force that moves mountains, but before faith can take action, hope must be firmly established in the heart. Hope is the forerunner of faith—it gives faith something to work with. Without hope, faith has no direction. Hope sets the expectation, and faith brings it into reality. Romans 4:18 describes Abraham as a man who hoped against hope—meaning he chose to believe when all logical hope was gone. Naturally speaking, there was no hope left. He was nearly a hundred years old, and Sarah, his wife, had been barren all her life. Every human reason to believe was absent. Yet, he chose to place his hope in God’s Word rather than in his circumstances. He did not deny the reality of his situation, but he refused to let it define his expectation. His hope was anchored in God’s promise, not in human probability.
Prayer: Father, thank You for being the God of hope. I refuse to be moved by what I see. I anchor my heart in Your promises, just as Abraham did.
Confession: My hope is in God’s unfailing Word.
