Monday, 31st March 2025: Be Alert to the Temptation of the Forbidden!

Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 11:2-4
“And it came to pass in an evening tide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.”

Reflections: This passage teaches us an important lesson: We will be tempted by what is forbidden. David, a man after God’s own heart, faced temptation when he saw Bathsheba bathing. Instead of turning away, his curiosity led to desire, which resulted in sin and regret. This teaches that temptation often begins subtly—through a glance or a thought—but can grow if unchecked. David’s failure was not in seeing Bathsheba but in not resisting temptation. The enemy exploits moments of weakness, so believers must remain vigilant. We need to be alert, recognizing the strategies of temptation before they take hold of us. When we encounter what is forbidden, we must remember that God has set boundaries for our good, and straying from them only leads to pain and destruction.

Prayer: Father, give me the strength to turn away from what is forbidden.

Confession: I turn away from what is forbidden and seek to follow God’s will for my life. mnctototogel
