Scripture Reading: Daniel 5:22
And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
Reflection: A strange hand appeared and began writing on the wall. The King wobbled all over. Daniel was brought in to interpret this writing. In his preamble to the interpretation, Daniel brings back into the memory of the King a past event he expected to have guided the. King’s life and reign. The seven years deposition of his late father, Nebuchadnezzar from the throne by God to live among and eat with beasts in the bush should have made him fear God and restrained him from becoming proud in life. But unfortunately Belshazzar did not allow this important past to guide him. He even had the audacity to drink from the vessels of the temple of the most high God. This was the cause of his judgment by God as spelt out by the strange writing on the wall. You cannot ignore the events of the past if you want to stay on top in life. Don’t be like Belshazzar who only knew the past but failed to allow the past to guide him in making right and godly choices. Remember, it is not enough to just know the past. You must allow the past to guide you.
Confession: I will not repeat the mistakes of the past. I will be guided by past events in Jesus’ name.
