Scripture Reading: Genesis 4:25
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
Reflections: Abel was killed by his brother Cain. This was devastating news for Adam and Eve, their parents. Eve eventually became pregnant and gave birth to another son, Seth. ‘Seth’ means ‘appointed or ‘placed’ in the Hebrew language. As a result, God had appointed or put this new infant as a successor for Abel. We can assume from this that Adam and Eve considered this new kid as divine compensation and named him as such. We may experience losses in life, as Adam and Eve did, but we must remember that God has a way of compensating us with a new bundle. Continue to hold on.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the heavenly compensation you provide.
Confession: God compensates my losses.
