Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:7
Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared

Reflections: Herod was able to help the wise men out through the instrumentality of the chief priests and scribes. However, he held a private meeting with them afterwards to question them on the precise time they had seen the star. Without the slightest clue of what Herod was after, they answered. This enabled Herod to determine the likely age of the child. He aimed to have a baseline for tracking and killing the child. This proved to be so when later he killed all babies 2 years and under. In life, people may have an evil agenda when they start posing pertinent questions to you. Unlike the wise men who couldn’t discern the intentions of Herod for requesting specific information about the star, you must trust God to help you discern the intentions of people concerning key questions they might pose to you in your interactions with them.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Help me discern the intentions of people whenever they seek information from me.

Confession: I just don’t give information out to people. I discern their intentions before doing so.
