Scripture Reading: Genesis 35:5
And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
Reflections: Jacob journeyed homeward after serving Laban for so many years. He had a large family with plenty of substance. The journey took him through several cities, and despite the visibility of his wealth and goods, no one dared to attack him. He enjoyed an invisible protection described as the ‘terror of God’. The ‘terror of God’ refers to intimidating divine actions on behalf of God’s children, which bring people around them into fear. It manifests in diverse ways, including dreams and real-life actions (Genesis 20:6-7, Joshua 2:9, Exodus 15:16, and Deuteronomy 2:25). The terror of God can also favour you, just like it did for Jacob. When it is operational, your enemies and those who envy you will leave you in peace. For sure, you need God’s terror to favour you as you journey through life!
Prayer: Oh Lord, let your terror go before me 24/7.
Confession: The terror of God is upon my enemies.
